On April 22nd, 2019 the ABA ROLI Office organized a National Anti-corruption Roundtable in Skopje. The goal of this round table was to bring legal professional from the country and the region to discuss issues and challenges regarding the improvement of procedural safeguards for providing defense in criminal procedures involving money laundering, assets seizure and freezing of property in North Macedonia. During the first session, the national analysis for North Macedonia and Kosovo was presented by Stevce Gligorov, Zivko Ajtov and Korab Rexhepi, attorneys at Law from Skopje, Kavadarci and Prishtina. They presented the analysis of national legislation, aimed at identifying the biggest and most common problems regarding the process, position of the defense, as well as advocating for improvement in this area both de jure and de facto through exchange of experiences in the interest of providing equality of parties and weapons. During the second session, presentations by Spasenka Andonova, Public Prosecutor, Gjoko Ristov, Judge at Basic Criminal Court in Skopje, Prof. Svetlana Nikoloska, Academic Staff at the Police Academy in Skopje and Daniel Linhardt, Legal Specialist in the ABA ROLI Skopje Office, were given. This roundtable was attended by 40 participants (attorneys, professors of law, judges and prosecutors, as well as representatives from the Kosovo Bar Association).
