Pre-trial Detention training for Albanian lawyers

Posted on 17.10.2016 10:00:00

The regional bar chamber of Korca hosted its first ever training for advocates in the district on September 29, 2016.  The training was led by Arben Lena and Arben Tabaku, both trainers within the Balkans Regional Rule of Law network.  The topic for the training was Article 5 of the European Convention on Human Rights and pre-trial detention and was highly interactive.  Approximately 25 lawyers participated and engaged in a lively discussion regarding the application of the law on pre-trial detention and how judges routinely impose it without articulating reasons.  The course was originally developed during BRRLN’s September 2015 Training of Trainers (TOT) and was taught as part of the project’s goal for each participant to teach a course to lawyers in their home country. The BRRLN bar chambers have supported each of the ten courses that have been subsequently taught by TOT participants for more than 200 lawyers across the region.
